SACCO & microfinance

SACCO management software that keeps the loan book honest

Covadesk runs a SACCO end to end: member onboarding and KYC, BOSA and FOSA savings, loan origination with guarantors, arrears and provisioning, dividends and SASRA returns — on the same ledger as your payroll, procurement and fixed assets.

Built for: Deposit-taking and non-withdrawable SACCOs, employer-based and community SACCOs, and microfinance institutions in Kenya and across East Africa.

The problems we solve

Where SACCOs lose money — and how Covadesk closes the gap

  • Portfolio at risk discovered at the audit

When arrears live in a spreadsheet, PAR 30 is a quarterly surprise. Covadesk ages every loan daily and shows the book’s headroom against the regulatory ceiling on the dashboard.

  • Guarantors pledged twice

Deposits pledged behind one loan must not secure another. Liens are held against the member’s savings, so what is pledged is never counted as free to lend.

  • Returns rebuilt by hand

SASRA prudential returns and CRB submissions are produced from the loan book and the ledger, not retyped from a dozen reports.

  • Back office in a different system

Staff payroll, supplier payments and fixed assets sit in the same Covadesk ledger, so the SACCO’s own accounts close with the member accounts.

What SACCOs see in Covadesk

Real Covadesk screens, shown with sample data.

Covadesk SACCO dashboard showing member deposits, loan book, arrears and portfolio at risk

What members hold, what the society has lent, and what is not coming back on time — with PAR 30 against the ceiling.

Features

Everything SACCOs need, in one system

Member register and KYC

Every member’s position on one screen — what they hold, what they owe and what they have pledged behind other people’s borrowing.

  • Member onboarding with KYC status — a member awaiting KYC cannot borrow
  • Share capital, deposits and amounts under lien per member
  • Dormant account tracking and member statements
  • Members in arrears flagged across savings and loans

BOSA and FOSA savings

Savings products with their own rules, interest and withdrawal terms, and the lien that stops pledged deposits leaving.

  • Multiple savings products per member — BOSA deposits, ordinary savings and more
  • Deposits, withdrawals and statements from the account screen
  • Interest posting runs on deposits
  • Available balance calculated net of liens

Loan origination with guarantors

Applications move from submitted to appraised, guaranteed, approved and disbursed, and each step is a recorded decision.

  • Loan products on reducing-balance or flat interest, with optional grace periods
  • Eligibility capped at a multiple of free deposits, net of what is already pledged
  • Guarantors pledge deposits; the application waits until security is in place
  • Approval through the generic approval engine, then disbursement

Loan book, arrears and provisioning

The board sees what the society has lent, what is late and what must be provided for.

  • Gross portfolio, arrears and provision required on one dashboard
  • Loans graded Performing, Watch, Substandard, Doubtful and Loss — aged from the oldest unpaid instalment
  • PAR 30 against the regulatory ceiling, with headroom
  • Provision computed on the balance net of security
  • Re-ageing of the book on demand

Dividends, SASRA and CRB

Year-end and regulatory work generated from the records, not reconstructed from them.

  • Dividend on share capital and interest on deposits computed and posted
  • SASRA prudential return data from the loan book and ledger
  • CRB submission files for credit reporting

How it flows

One process, start to finish

  1. 01

    Register and verify

Capture the member, collect KYC and open their share and savings accounts.

  2. 02

    Save

Deposits post to BOSA or FOSA accounts, by cash, bank or M-Pesa.

  3. 03

    Apply and appraise

The member applies; eligibility is computed and guarantors pledge their deposits.

  4. 04

    Approve and disburse

Approvals route by value; disbursement posts to the ledger and starts the schedule.

  5. 05

    Collect and age

Repayments reduce the balance; anything late is graded and provided for.

  6. 06

    Report

Dividends, SASRA returns and CRB files come straight from the books.

Questions

Covadesk for SACCOs: common questions

Does Covadesk handle both BOSA and FOSA?

Yes. Savings products are configurable, so a SACCO can run BOSA deposits, FOSA ordinary savings and other products side by side, each with its own interest and withdrawal rules. Deposits pledged as guarantees are held under lien and excluded from the available balance.

How does Covadesk calculate PAR 30 and loan provisioning?

Every loan is aged by days in arrears and graded Performing, Watch, Substandard, Doubtful or Loss. PAR 30 is the balance of loans more than 30 days late as a share of the gross portfolio, shown against your regulatory ceiling. Provision is computed per grade on the balance net of security.

Can Covadesk produce SASRA returns?

Covadesk produces the SASRA prudential return data — portfolio quality, provisioning and the supporting figures — directly from the loan book and general ledger, so the return reconciles with the accounts.

Can members pay through M-Pesa?

Yes. Covadesk integrates with M-Pesa through Daraja, so C2B payments are received and matched to the member’s account automatically.

Is SACCO data separated from other organisations?

Yes. Each organisation’s rows are isolated with PostgreSQL row-level security, and member identification numbers are redacted in the audit log.
